A young spanish woman of Senegalese origin is launching sauces with traditional recipes from African countries.

Louise Basse, a young entrepreneur from Spain and of Senegalese origin, created the Mom Koumba® brand for the manufacturing and marketing of sauces with traditional African recipes.

Africa is a continent full of culture, colours, music and flavours, and what better way to get to know it than by eating! Mom Koumba® wants to make African tradition and culture known through its gastronomy.

As part of its launch, the project is bringing 4 different types of sauces on the market:

MAFFE (a traditional Senegalese sauce consisting of a mélange of vegetables and peanuts),

YASSA (a typical Senegalese sauce in which onion is the main ingredient along

with other fresh vegetables),
DORO WAT (traditional Ethiopian spicy sauce with a fresh touch of ginger),

SAKAY (spicy sauce from Madagascar made with garlic, ginger, extra virgin olive oil and a blend of African chillies).

A portion of the proceeds of each sauce goes to social projects in Africa, including the following NGOs: CIS Ángel Olarán in Ethiopia, Yamuna in Madagascar and Bassari and Africa Espacio de Esperanza in Senegal.

All of them are made with quality ingredients and are very faithful to the original recipes of each country. In this way, consumers will be able to travel to the African continent through these flavours and learn a little more about its culture and gastronomy. “Mom Koumba® sauces offer Europe a great opportunity to get to know African gastronomy,” comments Basse.

The aim is to bring African food to new consumers, but also to respond to the high demand for these products from European citizens of African origin.

After conducting thorough market research, Basse detected the lack of sauces and ready meals of African origin in food shops and observed that there is a gap in the market for this type of product. “The amount of European citizens with African roots is sufficiently high in European countries and thus enough space on the shelves of supermarkets,” she explains.

Quality and food safety

Mom Koumba® produces its products in Spain following traditional African recipes, respecting the ingredients with fresh vegetables, without additives or preservatives. The production is carried out under the highest quality and food safety standards and in accordance with the IFS (International Food Standard). Mom Koumba® currently has a production capacity of 45,000 units per day.

Social-gastro project

Mom Koumba® is a food brand, but also a social and solidarity project. Part of the profits obtained from the sale of each jar of Mom Koumba® sauce go to social projects developed in the country where the recipe is traditionally from. “The idea is to go beyond gastronomy and contribute to the development of social projects that improve the quality of life of the African population,” adds Basse.

Mom Koumba® works closely together with the following NGOs, where the proceeds of Mom Koumba products come from: CIS Ángel Olarán in Ethiopia (DORO WAT), Yamuna in Madagascar (SAKAY), Bassari and Africa Espacio de Esperanza in Senegal (MAFFE and YASSA). Mom Koumba® specifically works onprojects related to training, employment, food security, access to drinking water and medicines, as well as aid to women and children. All this is explained on the label of each product and in more detail on the website www.momkoumba.com/social-projects.
